Review of The Wild Unknown Archetypes Deck
This deck is highly unusual, breaking all the rules. The cards are circular, the suits are custom, and the figures represented contain neither pip values nor face cards. The suits are Selves, Tools, Places, and Initiations. The guidebook indicates that Initiations function somewhat like trumps in this deck.
The illustrations are all highly abstract, filled with collage, sketch, and watercolor. The art style is beautiful, and very effective at conveying the symbolism behind each card. Reading with this deck would likely be an intense experience, because the designations of this deck cut straight to the core of human experience.
The guidebook is nice, with a durable trade paperback cover and the black and white version of each illustration beside the meanings of each card. The box is durable and beautiful, with a magnetic clasp and ribbons to help remove everything.
Shuffling this deck is surprisingly easy given the unique shape, because the cardstock is quite heavy. I might have had trouble if my hands were a bit smaller.
